Okay ladies and gents. I'm a little (read as: a lot) late getting this up today due to some technical issues....BUT here's my stop on Barbara Garren's Infinite Potential blog tour! I'm super excited to share with you guys Barbara's dream cast for the whole Phasms Series. So without further ado....
Dream casting is SOOO much fun for an author. I think we all have an idea what our characters look like. Sometimes we go to great depths to describe them. Sometimes, as in my novel, we hint at the key features and characteristics, leaving the rest to the imagination.
I was asked to share my “dream cast” with you for my Phasms trilogy and I hope you find this as entertaining and enticing as it was fun!
So, first Kelsi. Kelsi is young (23) and I wrote very little about her appearance throughout the book. You get a hint here and there and you realize she’s not overly short or tall, has auburn-ish hair and is certainly pretty, but that’s about it. Accept for her eyes – her eyes are described repeatedly as a light, bright green. Lime green. Freaky green. I have a friend who’s daughter has eyes that shade of green and the are startling, arresting, beautiful and rare.
If I had to cast someone as Kelsi, it would be Evangeline Lily. It’s a combination of the eyes, the hair, the “more than girl-next-door” beauty. There’s a hint of mischief, a touch of sorrow and real zest for life that comes across to me when I see her in this picture…

Aiden was a bit more difficult. He’s “Not handsome in the celebrity, male model sort of way—his features were too strong, too rugged for that. His appeal was in the evenness of his smile, the flash and spark in his eyes, the careless disregard for a perfectly polished and pressed appearance. It was the sense of strength that emanated from broad shoulders, a deep chest, and large, square hands.” His most striking feature, like Kelsi, are his eyes – brown and rich with glints of gold that emanate from deep inside.
I came across this picture of Gerard Butler and, despite the eye color, I knew immediately it was Aiden. I mean, that smile? The hair? Everything about him was what I pictured when I wrote Aiden’s character into the book…

When it came time to think about Sarah, Kelsi’s best friend, it was kind of easy. I had in mind a young, short-haired Ashley Judd. Cute bordering on gorgeous and completely unaffected by the way she appeared to others. Sarah is honest and forthright to the point that it unnerves others, but she has the warmest heart in the western hemisphere and it shows in her smile…
Probably the hardest character to cast would be the Dark-Haired Man… I’ve tried several times, and only manage to catch glimpses of him. He resembles Aiden in so many ways, with such subtle differences; it’s hard to define. Like Aiden and Kelsi, his eyes are his most striking features, and also the most frightening, with “eyes like matte black felt fixed in place. His mouth is a grim, straight line that evokes so much disappointment.”
There’s some seriously dark Christian Bale going on there, and he’s the only actor I can think of that could carry the real, emotional weight of DHM, or as Sarah dubs him, “The Dark Dude.”

And there you have it – my dream cast. I can’t cast any other characters, and the Charlie in the book is based on my own Charlie, so I guess he’ll have to play himself. He wouldn’t mind, as long as he got paid in puppy treats!
