SYTYCW is in full swing and I've found myself in a bit of a pickle. I'm trying to decide which manuscript to enter into the contest. My choices are: The vamp you've been enjoying the past few weeks and the tease I'm about to share with you.
Care to help me decide?
The set up: Our heroine, Olivia, has crashed the party of billionaire tycoon, Raffaele Ferrarotto in search of answers. What she finds is a dangerously sexy man with a proposition: He'll help her find her brother...in exchange for Olivia in his bed.
This weeks tease:
“Why are you here?” He broke the silence that had settled between them.
“To dance?” She could feel his eyes on her and had a sinking feeling her saw through her glossy exterior.
His hand gave hers a quick threatening squeeze. “Care to give me the truth this time?”
Scanning the dancers around her for a sign of anyone paying attention to them, she tried to figure out the best course of action. She could tell him the truth and probably never learn what happened to Jax because she would surely be thrown out immediately. Or she could try and buy herself some more time and hopefully a few answers.
“You might as well tell me. With one quick signal I can have my security summoned in an instant,” his words brushed over her ear as he leaned closer. “Wouldn’t want to create a scene now would we?”
Taking a deep breath she tried to hide the fact that her entire body wanted to shudder at the feel of his strong body brushing against hers.
“I see I’ve gotten your attention.” Boy did he ever. Probably not in the way he wanted but she wasn’t about to draw his notice to the reason for her body’s reaction. “Now are you going to act like an adult and tell me what’s going on? I know you weren’t on my guest list. I would have remembered you.” His warm hand on the bare skin of her back had her heart doing crazy things in her chest and she had the sinking suspicion he knew what he was doing to her.
“Yes, well...I was given an invitation from a friend.”
“Would this friend have had the pleasure of accompanying you this evening?”
“Er—unfortunately he's out of town.”
“So you just decided to come alone? To an event where you knew no one?” She really should've thought about her cover story a little more but the man flustered her beyond thinking.
“I had the dress?” Not exactly confident anymore, she hadn't meant to let her bravado slip.
“It is quite a dress to be sure.” He ran the tips of his fingers up her exposed spine. “Almost worth looking past your lies.”
Just like that, the feel of his arms around her went from pleasant to caging. Olivia just knew fighting against his hold would give him a sense of satisfaction. She tried to keep her frame relaxed as she tried to meet his gaze. “I don't know what you mean.”
“Please spare me more untruths. I've had enough female games to last me a lifetime.” The bitterness in his voice made her want to ask questions. Questions she had no right to and she knew it. She wasn't there to find out what made the man tick. She was there to discover what he did to her brother and finding any bit of humanity in Raffaele Ferrarotto would be the biggest mistake she could make.
Hope you enjoyed the tease! And as always don't forget to check out the other authors on the hop!
