Set up: Alyssa, our heroine, has just been fired from her job and is leaving the building when she comes across two huge figures fighting in the darkness of a parking structure.
This Week's Teaser:
“D-don't come any closer,” she squeaked out instantly angry with herself for sounding so weak. “I swear. Take one step and I'll shoot.”
The figure merely tilted his head like a confused dog at her threat and took a lumbering step toward the edge of the shadow. More importantly a lumbering step toward her.
“I warned you,” she whispered before closing her eyes, taking a deep breath and pulling the trigger.
When the shot wasn't followed by a roar of pain she cracked an eye open expecting to come face to face with seven feet of pissed off mugger. The empty space where the giant had been standing just seconds before was a surprise. How could a man that big move so fast as to avoid a bullet? She hadn't even heard him run.
A painful groan pulled her focus to the floor. Her fingers lost their grip in her gun as she ran to the man laying in the shadows. Completely forgetting the danger, she ran to the edge of the shadow hesitating to step into it.
“Hello? Are you okay?” she asked the crumpled form. Stupid question. The man had just been stabbed in the chest of course he's not okay. So sue her if her synapses took a minute to reboot and catch up after facing down death by steroid-raging mugger.
The man made a pitiful noise and she took a breath stepping into the darkness. It took a second for her eyes to adjust. It shouldn't have been that dark in the middle of the city even if the sun had set an hour ago. When she could finally see her hand in front of her face, Alyssa focused on the form—the very large, very muscled form—a few feet away. Large booted feet led to long, jean clad legs. She gulped when the man moaned and rolled onto his back giving her a good idea of how big he would be on his feet. His muscular legs ended at a trim, but wide waist that tapered out into shoulders so wide she wondered how the dark fabric of his shirt contained all that muscle.
Focusing on ripple of muscle as he shifted she noticed a darker patch on the front of his shirt growing steadily larger. Shit. He'd been stabbed and you're just standing there wondering how all those muscles would feel under your hands. Alyssa gave herself a mental shake and moved to his side. Kneeling, she felt herself slip in something slick and warm. Knowing it was his blood she tried not to heave as she placed a hand on the cool skin of his cheek.
